Coverage: The Affordable Care Act

The Affordable Care Act is the most significant expansion of access to health care in the United States since Medicare and Medicaid were created in 1965. Thanks to the subsidies that make it possible for  people to purchase private health insurance and the expansion of Medicaid, more than 30 million more people now have health coverage. The POCEF will educate the public about the need to:

  • Defend the ACA from political, policy and legal attacks.
  • Continually advocate for “Special Enrollment Periods,” federal funding for navigators and public education campaigns and other executive actions that increase enrollment.
  • Ensure that insurance plans funded by ACA premiums provide people with high-quality coverage.
